York packaged rooftop units REE replaces and services
Johnson Controls groups York rooftop units into three categories: light commercial, commercial and applied. REE replaces and services all three, along with the other York equipment on the commercial sites we serve.
Johnson Controls, which lists YORK among its brands, describes the York rooftop range on its packaged rooftop units page. It lists the Small Sunline, Sun Core and Sun Pro as light commercial rooftops, the Large Sunline and Sun Choice as commercial rooftops, and the Sun Select as an applied rooftop. The same page says York rooftop units have embedded Smart Equipment controls for installation, start-up and commissioning, and a wide variety of heating and air conditioning options and field-installed accessories.
For what is inside any of these cabinets, see how a commercial rooftop unit works.
Light commercial, commercial and applied York rooftops on one portfolio
A portfolio can include more than one York category: light commercial units on smaller buildings and larger commercial or applied units on bigger ones. Each category raises different crane, curb and controls questions at replacement time.
Smaller light commercial units are usually simple crane picks on a standard curb. Larger commercial and applied units bring bigger picks, heavier curbs and sometimes a structural review, so they are scheduled further ahead. Larger units also tend to serve more ductwork and more zones, which means more controls to reconnect.
REE records each York unit's category and age in the site's asset list so a portfolio can plan replacements by budget year instead of by failure. See HVAC asset inspection and testing and repair or replace a rooftop unit.
Replacing a York rooftop unit across a store portfolio
A York rooftop replacement is planned store by store. The curb, the crane, the permit and the trading calendar set the date, and the equipment order follows.
The survey confirms whether the new unit, York or another make, lands on the existing curb or needs an adapter, and how the embedded controls will connect to anything already on site. Kelly Purcell, our Installation Director, runs permitting city by city across the six counties. Anthony Renteria's installation crew sets the unit, and we self-perform the work rather than subcontract it. Rollouts are phased one unit or one roof section at a time so stores keep trading.
The full sequence is on our rooftop unit installation and replacement page. If a site is weighing split equipment instead, see packaged vs split systems in commercial buildings.
Maintenance and Standard 180 inspections on York equipment
REE maintains York rooftop units under the same Standard 180 program as the rest of a portfolio, with each visit recorded against the unit so replacement planning has a service history.
Johnson Controls describes the York Sun Pro cabinet as having maintenance-friendly standard features, such as slide-out blowers and tool-less, hinged access doors, on its packaged rooftop units page. On any York unit, a visit covers coils, belts, filters, drains, economizers and controls. REE's own figure is that about 80% of the service calls we receive could have been avoided with proper maintenance.
Programs run through our HVAC maintenance and inspections pillar, documented to the ASHRAE 180 inspection and testing standard. Taking over a site from another contractor starts with onboarding a new store into a maintenance program. Between visits, 24/7 emergency service covers failures.
